Why the car damage from Phoenix’s hailstorm may be worse than it looks

Phoenix-area drivers are facing shattered windshields, dented cars and potentially weeks-long repair waits after Wednesday’s hailstorm. The hailstorm that hit Phoenix, Arizona, may have caused significant damage to vehicles across the Valley, causing drivers to go to body shops for repairs. Keith McKay, general manager of Autobody Solutions Peoria, said the damage varies from car to car, with some vehicles having dings or broken windshields. Some vehicles had to be towed into the shop rather than driven in, and McKay said there could be more damage underneath the visible dents and dings once the vehicle is under better lighting. The length of repairs depends on the extent of the damage and how quickly parts and insurance can catch up. For extreme damage cases, McKay estimated one car he showed Arizona's Family could take up to a month to repair.
