How to welcome 2026 with less clutter, more sustainability

Several Tucson efforts can help donate items others can use and to help improve the environment. The Executive Director of Tucson Environmental Advocacy and Action Board (TCB), Kate Gannon, has been dedicated to preserving and improving the environment, conserving natural resources, and enhancing quality of life in Tucson and Pima County for 40 years. TCB offers educational and hands-on programs in recycling and waste reduction, land stewardship, urban forestry and beautification. Funding for these programs is provided through grants, memberships, and monetary and in-kind donations. Volunteers are the foundation of TCB efforts, including large-scale tree-plantings in low-ranked neighborhoods with high rates of poverty, unemployment, and high tree canopies. The first tree planting of 2026 is in the Elvira Neighborhood on Saturday, Jan. 10. During post-holiday cleanup, old, broken and unwanted strings of holiday lights can also be recycled through The Freecycle Network.
