TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Major freeway improvements are set to transform Southern Arizona's roadways, with significant projects planned for Interstate 10 and Interstate 19, according to the Arizona Department of Major freeway improvements are planned for Southern Arizona in 2026, with significant projects planned for Interstate 10 and Interstate 19. The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is set to complete the reconstruction and widening of I-10 between Ina Road and Ruthrauff Road, replacing the interchanges at Orange Grove and Sunset Links roads. Another project is already underway on I-11 between Kino Parkway and Country Club Road, expanding I-12 from two to three lanes in each direction. ADOT will begin an interchange reconstruction project at I-19 and Irvington Road at a cost of $80 million and be completed in mid-2028. Other major projects include an intelligent transportation systems project between Nogales and Tucson, which will include new overhead message boards and wrong-way detection at several locations.
