Diner coming to Tucson's Sunshine Mile
For Subscribers: Howdy Diner is taking over the former Welcome Diner spot at 902 E. Broadway, which closed in 2020. Sally Kane, owner of Coronet Restaurant in Tucson, has leased the former Welcome Diner, which opened more than 60 years ago and was closed in 2020. The 3,929-square-foot diner is set to be expanded with plans to include a patio and bar. Kane has been looking for a new location for two years and was excited about taking over the former welcome Diner. She plans to add a walk-up counter, bar, and outdoor patio to the existing diner. The façade of the diner will remain and interior upgrades will be made.
