The late 1990s brought us spaghetti strap crop tops, frosted lip gloss and an explosion of boy bands across the U.S.

Aside from giving us some of the best in fashion and music, the late ’90s gave us something else, too — iconic movies.

The Loft Cinema, 3233 E. Speedway, is celebrating 1999 movie classics this summer with their “1999! Best. Movie. Year. Ever.” series.

Now through Aug. 1, The Loft is showing 18 movies from 1999 with its one-day-only prime-time screenings that start at 7:30 p.m. and its weekly Cult Classic showings with various showtimes.

Tickets start at $10.50 for the one-day-only showings and $8 for the weekly showings.

“While the title of Best. Movie. Year. Ever. can (and will) be endlessly debated, there’s no denying that in 1999, there was a very special kind of movie magic in the air, and this June and July, The Loft Cinema is proud to present a sampling of some of the greatest, most influential and just plain fun films to be released during that culture-conquering year!” The Loft wrote on their website. “And for even more 1999 action, our Cult Classics series in June and July will also be dedicated to films from that unforgettable year.”
