Interior Secretary discusses Colorado River plan, calls Arizona’s water cuts ‘completely manageable’

The U.S. Secretary of the Interior sat down with 13 News' Payton May to discuss Colorado River plans and the ongoing legal battle over Arizona's water. U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, has called Arizona's water cuts under the federal government's Colorado River plan "completely manageable" in an exclusive interview with 13 News. This follows a lawsuit by Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs against the Department of Interior alleging "devastating" cuts to their water supply. Burgum dismissed the lawsuit, stating it assumes injury that has not yet occurred. The 10-year framework took effect on Oct. 1, but reductions to Arizona’s water deliveries won’t begin until Jan. 1 2025. The finalized 10-yr agreement proposes a 760,000 acre-feet cut to Arizona's supply over the next two years, roughly a quarter of the state’ll allocation, and no cuts are required for the four Upper Basin states.
