Tucson is designing an official city font. The first step? Finger paint. Tucson is creating its first official typeface using lines and curves drawn by residents at the Tucson Meet Yourself festival on Oct. 17. The project, part of Nuestra Cultura Goes Wild, aims to celebrate Tucson's cultural identity rather than its landscape or landmarks. The font will be used in the city's tourism marketing and a downloadable version is planned for public use. Tommy Gomez, executive director of the Los Angeles-based marketing company The Culturist Group, will photograph and scan the painted marks, then create the letters of an uppercase alphabet. The final design and name are expected to be announced in November.
