Tucson is designing an official city font. The first step? Finger paint.
At Tucson Meet Yourself, hundreds of people helped turn simple lines and curves into a future typeface designed to reflect the city’s culture and community. Tucson is creating its first official typeface using lines and curves drawn by residents at the Tucson Meet Yourself festival on Oct. 17. The project, part of Nuestra Cultura Goes Wild, aims to celebrate Tucson's cultural identity and highlight the city's defining feature is not just its landscape or landmarks, but its people. The Los Angeles-based marketing company The Culturist Group has been hired to digitize the artwork and assemble the marks into a finished typeface. Once completed, the font will be used in Visit Tucson’s marketing materials and a downloadable version for public use. The font’s name and final design are expected to be announced in November.
