Man killed in crash along Valencia Road

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Tucson Police says a man on his bicycle was killed after being hit by a car along Valencia Road.

TPD says the crash happened last night, June 9, just after 10:15 p.m. in the 400 block of west Valencia Road, which is just east of Interstate 19.

Police say the crash involved an orange 2016 Dodge Dart and an adult-male bicyclist.

The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives determined the driver of the Dodge Dart was heading east on Valencia Road in the median lane when he hit the bicyclist, who had moved in front of the vehicle.

The driver of the Dodge immediately stopped after the collision and cooperated with the investigation.

An officer from the Impaired Driver Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and evaluated the driver for impairment.

It was determined the adult-male driver was impaired by alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the collision.

Detectives are conducting further investigation into the collision to determine the appropriate charges for the driver.

This remains an ongoing investigation and no citations or charges have been issued at this time.
