Authorities identify driver in fatal south side crash

The police investigation revealed that Swanston attempted to make a left turn onto Calle Santa Cruz while turning, she was hit by the other driver who was driving westbound on Irvington Road. No indication that either driver was impaired, and Swanston has been issued a citation for failure to yield while making a left-turn.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) — The Tucson Police Department has identified the driver in a fatal crash on Tucson’s south side in early March.

On March 11, medics from the Tucson Fire Department transported 78-year-old Kathleen Dianne Swanston to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was involved in a two-vehicle crash.

According to TPD, Swanston passed away from her injuries on March 27.

At 12:30 p.m. on March 11, TPD and TFD responded to the crash at West Irvington Road and South Calle Santa Cruz.

TFD also took the 77-year-old passenger of the other vehicle to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

TPD says their investigation showed that Swanston was driving eastbound on Irvington Road and tried to make a left turn onto Calle Santa Cruz. While turning, Swanston was hit by the other driver who was driving westbound on Irvington Road in the median lane.

TPD says there was no indication that either driver was impaired. Swanston was issued a citation for failure to yield while making a left turn.

TPD Traffic Detectives are now determining if there are any other possible charges or citations.
