TPD accepts four grants from Governor’s Office of Highway Safety
The four grants aim to address traffic fatalities and unsafe driving throughout southern Arizona. The Tucson Police Department has accepted four grants from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to reduce traffic fatalities and unsafe driving behavior. The grants aim to increase public awareness of impaired driving, deter drivers from driving while impaired, and investigate DUI offenses to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road. Funding will also support the hiring of extra officers for high-visibility DUI deployments and saturation patrols, particularly on holidays and weekend nights. The funds will be used to address hazardous driving behaviors such as speeding, following too closely, failing to yield, running red lights, aggressive driving, cell phone use, and more.
