ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (KVOA) — Friends and colleagues are remembering the life of an Oro Valley man who died in a plane crash close to Picacho Peak State Park.

Colleagues tell News 4 Tucson that he was an engineer whose work left a mark in many of the buildings in Tucson.

“I got an email from our mechanical engineer with a clip from a news service saying that it happened."

Corky Poster is recalling the moment he found out his friend James Galvin died while on a single engine plane.

Pinal County deputies say Galvin crashed near the top of Picacho Peak Saturday morning.

The word "we're" means Galvin’s colleagues at Poster Mirto McDonald - a Tucson architect firm.

Galvin worked with this firm as a consulting structural engineer.

“We have about a dozen people that work here and our specialty is affordable housing, historic preservation, community buildings,” Poster said.

Poster says Galvin left his mark in helping to restore many of the buildings you see in the Tucson area.

Some of those include the historic gym at Tucson High School, Steam Pump Ranch and even the Fort Lowell Officer’s Quarters and Museum.

“How do you take this really old building it’s kind of falling apart and how do you make it safe for people to use? That was his specialty,” Poster said.

“And he was always brought so much integrity and good will to everything we did together,” said Jon Mirto, a colleague of Galvin.

Galvin was described in a recent obituary as a devoted family man.

It also says he was plane lover who enjoyed flying around Southern Arizona.

This firm is coming to terms that Galvin will not be sitting at this office anymore.

“We’re all really going to miss him,” Mirto said.

An obituary says that Galvin leaves behind a wife, two children and two grandchildren.

His wife is telling News 4 Tucson that he was a “great guy.”

More information about the circumstances leading up to the deadly plane crash has still not been released by the National Transportation Safety Board or the Federal Aviation Administration.
