String quartet coming to Tucson brings fresh perspective to old works
The Borromeo String Quartet returns to Tucson Oct. 28, bringing its distinctive approach to Beethoven to open Arizona Friends of Chamber Music's season. The Borromeo String Quartet, led by husband-and-wife founding members Nicholas Kitchen and Yeesun Kim, has been performing on some of the most prestigious international stages for 35 years. The ensemble, which uses laptops on stage during performances instead of paper scores, has an old-school ethos, focusing on finding hidden notations and nuances that bring a fresh perspective to composer Beethoven's original intent. They will perform Beethven's String Quartate No. 2 in G major on October 28 at Leo Rich Theater in Tucson. This concert is the first in Tucson since it played the 2011 Arizona Friends Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival.
