Sierra Vista Police increase juvenile missing persons notifications

The Sierra Vista Police Department is increasing juvenile missing persons notifications following an update to the Arizona Statutes. The Sierra Vista Police Department is increasing the number of juvenile missing persons notifications given out by the department after the Arizona Statutes were updated. The notifications will now be posted within two hours of a child being reported missing and will be entered into state and national databases after 24 hours. If a child remains missing after 30 days, they will be placed in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. The changes prohibit law enforcement from using the term “runaway” in media alerts and social media. The SVPD warns that these changes may lead to an increase in missing person notifications and may lead some to assume the cases are all abductions.
