Eastside homeowner worries about possible consolidation of longtime TUSD middle school
TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Leaders with the Tucson Unified School District made another recommendation Friday to consolidate school campuses beginning next August. The Tucson Unified School District (Tucson) has made another recommendation to consolidate school campuses starting next August, with Collier Elementary recommended to be consolidated into Bloom Elementary. This move is the district's fifth recommendation. The district has cited declining enrollment and a loss of millions of dollars in state funding as reasons for its consolidation plan. Mike Kobylinski, a homeowner who has lived near Magee Middle School in Tucson's Eastside, has expressed concern about the potential closure of the school. The Tucson Education Association President, Jim Byrne, has warned that the district will have to work to keep as many jobs as possible. The TUSD school board will have a meeting on Oct. 27 to discuss the recommendations.
