TRAFFIC: Where to watch for road work across Tucson, southern Arizona

Here is a list of road closures in southern Arizona. This article includes a list of traffic projects around southern Arizona, including road work on the Finger Rock Wash Drainage Improvements project, Skyline Drive, Speedway Boulevard, and Fort Lowell Road. Other road closures are expected to occur throughout the duration of the project, such as the work on Skyline Road from Columbus Boulevard to Skyline Ridge Drive, and the FingerRock Wash Drainages Project. Drivers should expect some daytime and reduced speed limits throughout the project. The town of Oro Valley also announced road construction on Hardy Road between the Northern Avenue roundabout to Calle Loma Linda from March 27 to March 31 to address erosion within the shoulder areas at the low-flow water crossing of Carmack Wash.

Skyline Drive from Columbus Boulevard to Skyline Ridge Drive: Through June

Drivers on Skyline Drive are advised to seek alternate routes during work on the Finger Rock Wash Drainage Improvements project, which begins Monday, April 3, at the Finger Rock Wash.

The project includes replacing a culvert, repaving this segment and installing a guardrail.

Work hours will be 7 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The project is expected to be completed by late June.

Skyline Drive will be closed from Columbus Boulevard to Skyline Ridge Drive during the duration of the project. Drivers should seek alternate routes such as Pontatoc Road.

Message boards will be on-site and detour signs will be placed in advance of the closure.

Speedway Boulevard from Houghton Road to 2 miles east of Wentworth Road: April 3-10

Crews will repave Speedway Boulevard from Houghton Road to about two miles east of Wentworth Road.

The project is scheduled to begin Monday, April 3, and end April 10. Work hours will be 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The work will consist of setting traffic control, milling and repaving, and temporary striping will follow. Thermo striping is scheduled for a later date.

Flaggers will direct traffic movements through the construction zone. Due to the work area limitations, turn movements within the work zone may be restricted during paving operations. Minor delays and lane closures may also occur.

Ina Road between Meredith Boulevard and Camino de la Tierra: Through April 3

Crews will be conducting miscellaneous concrete bridge deck repairs on the Ina Road Bridge over Cañada del Oro Wash on the dates below. Work will consist of demolition, concrete and deck joint installation and repairing the barrier wall.

• None Friday, March 24, at 8 p.m. through Monday, March 27 at 6 a.m. Traffic will be shifted to the southern bridge and there will be one lane of traffic maintained in each direction at all times.

• None Friday, March 31, at 8 p.m. through Monday, April 3, at 6 a.m. Traffic will be shifted to the northern bridge and there will be one lane of traffic maintained in each direction at all times.

Lane restrictions and minor delays may occur during this work.

Hardy Road from Northern Avenue roundabout to Calle Loma Linda: Through March 31

The town of Oro Valley announced road construction on Hardy Road between the Northern Avenue roundabout to Calle Loma Linda from March 27 to March 31 to address erosion within the shoulder areas at the low-flow water crossing of Carmack Wash. The road will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the project.

Outside of construction hours, Hardy Road will reopen in both directions with no changes to the speed limit. However, drivers are asked to use caution and pay attention to traffic control signage that will be in the area.

Fort Lowell Road from Houghton Road to Avenida de la Colina: Through March 31

Fort Lowell Road will be closed from Houghton Road to Avenida de la Colina from March 15 to March 31 for road alignment improvements.

The project includes widening a half-mile of Houghton Road to add turn lanes and reconstructing 450 feet of Fort Lowell Road to realign the roadway and remove the intersection offset. Hours of work will be between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Drivers can use Prince Road and Melpomene Way as detour routes.

The Arizona Department of Transportation is paving four miles of State Route 77/Oracle Road with plans to finish by late 2023.

The work will take place on the southern end of the project, with paving operations on Miracle Mile between Interstate 10 and Oracle Road and on Oracle Road from Miracle Mile to River Road.

Most of the work will occur between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

During work hours, drivers can expect large vehicles and equipment on the roadway, uneven pavement and reduced speed limits. One lane of travel will remain open during pavement operations.

The new pavement is one of many improvements planned as part of a two-year, $34 million project to improve the highway between Interstate 10 and Oracle Road, as well as on Oracle Road from Miracle Mile to Calle Concordia.

Drivers should expect some daytime lane restrictions and delays throughout the project. ADOT will maintain access to the roughly 1,100 businesses in the corridor.

Construction crews are working on a roadway improvement project on South Houghton Road from the I-10 interchange to Andrada Polytechnic High School, 12960 S. Houghton Road.

Crews will activate the traffic signal and video detection system at the intersection of South Houghton Road and Brekke Road on Friday, March 30, at 9:00 a.m.

Crews will continue to place final striping at this intersection and finish driveway paving, landscaping and cleanup of the project area.

Improvements include widening of South Houghton Road from a two-lane roadway to a divided four-lane roadway, a separated multi-use path that will connect to the loop and drainage and intersection improvements. The project is expected to be completed early 2023.

Please approach the area with caution and obey all traffic control devices. Traffic control changes and speed reductions will occur as work progresses.

Crews will performing crack seal work at the following locations through April 14:

• None Camino Loma Alta from Old Spanish Trail to Colossal Cave Road

• None Sahuarita Road from west of Country Club Road to Sonoita Highway

• None Thornydale Road from Pecos Way to Daphne Lane

Crews will repair sewers at the following locations:

Crews will perform miscellaneous sewer repairs around Drexel Manor Stravenue, including Felix Boulevard to the north, Drexel Road to the east and Benson Highway to the south. There will be small detours set up, but traffic will not be interrupted.
