Ten years ago, Tucson band XIXA released their first full-length album, "Bloodline." They started as an underground cover band called Chicha Dust playing Peruvian chicha songs to increasingly bigger crowds. Tucson band XIXA, formerly known as Chicha Dust, has celebrated 10 years since their first full-length album, "Bloodline," released ten years ago. The band started as an underground cover band before finding their own sound within the genre of Peruvian cumbia, blending Peruvian sounds with indie borderland Americana. They found their own style of music, a moody Southwestern psychedelic rock 'n' roll vibe, fitting their border roots. XIXa singer, songwriter and guitarist Brian López and co-founder Gabriel Sullivan started their own music as a way to supplement their solo careers by performing covers of Percanian chicha cumbaria. The album "The Roots of Chichas: Volume 1" was released by Barbès Records and inspired Lópe to learn more about the genre. The group also includes Jason Urman, Geoffrey Hidalgo, and Bob Dylan.
