60-plus climate group Th!rd Act protests fossil fuels in downtown Tucson
An elderly activist group protested in front of Chase Bank in Downtown Tucson, demanding the establishment end its support of fossil fuels. A group of senior climate protesters gathered downtown in front of Chase Bank on Tuesday, March 21, to protest the funding of fossil fuels from banking giants like Chase. The protest coincided with the group’s “National Day of Action,” according to its website. Th!rd Act is a 60-plus climate activism group that plans to leverage the power of the growing “experienced American” demographic to bring awareness to the climate movement. There were over 100 protest events across the country on the 3.21.23 day of Action. The group has more action planned on both a local and national level, including developing actions addressing local/regional issues, and collaborating with other environmental/democracy advocacy groups.

These protestors belonged to a group called Th!rd Act, a 60-plus climate activism group that plans to leverage the power of the growing “experienced American” demographic to bring awareness to the climate movement. They were protesting the funding of fossil fuels from banking giants like Chase.
“Our demand to the banks was to stop financing [the] further expansion of fossil fuel projects ASAP,” said Kurt Reuter, a member of the local chapter of Th!rd Act.
This protest coincided with the group’s “National Day of Action,” according to its website.
”There were over 100 protest events across the country on the 3.21.23 Day of Action ... over 50 national/local partner organizations, such as the Sierra Club, helped support this initiative,” Reuter said in an email. “This campaign was entitled ‘Stop The Dirty Banks,’ which was focused on the top four large banks that help underwrite fossil fuel projects (Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo & Bank of America).”
Citing their generation’s experience with civil rights, multiple wars and outsized voting power, Th!rd Act believes our governing powers have to listen to their message. The group has more action planned on both a local and national level.
“Third Act is planning further actions focused on [the] financial support of fossil fuels and on democracy issues,” Reuter said in an email. “In addition to support of national campaigns, our AZ group will be developing actions addressing local/regional issues (e.g., drought, excessive heat, biodiversity loss), in addition to working collaboratively with other environmental/democracy advocacy groups.”
